The House of Hope shelters children who are very sick and cannot afford the treatments and medication they need. It is located in Davao City, Mindanao, Philippines.
It was around November 2011 that Joalah discovered the House of Hope through her work’s community service activities. It was in here that she met her young friend Excel Van. Joalah’s perception about sadness and depression tremendously changed when she saw the children at the House of Hope. It made her realize that she was stll blessed despite of what may be happening in her life. For Joalah, these children who are battling cancer are little warriors in their own individual ways. She is a very devout and religious woman and stated, “for my ways are not your ways and my thoughts are not your thoughts.” “I am challenging you if you are sad go to the House of Hope and you will surely realize how tiny your problems are.” “Allow God’s Wisdom to dominate your life.” “If only you could see how true and beautiful their smiles are, truly you’d fall in love with them.”

It is already 1:00 AM here and still can’t sleep. My insomnia visits me again..haha..
Thank you so much for being thoughtful of me. I find it quite touching that you reply to my messages before going to your meeting. So sweet of you!!
Like you, ALL things that can truly make me happy actually comes from simple things. Aside from bonding with my family and friends, I am also into NATURE. I love the feeling of hiking or camping and being in one with nature. To top it all, I love the feeling of giving something to make other people happy.
I AM INTO CHARITY but I stopped temporarily after I lost my adopted son Excel to cancer of the bones. I adopted him for almost 2 yrs from this shelter named House of Hope where all kids who belongs to a below average income family has cancer. They stay in that shelter so they can avail for free medication like chemo and all. He didn’t live with me. I only support him with his other needs like clothing, books and all. Due to this, his family became mine too. I know from the start that cancer has a way to revenge and that happened to Excel. After completing his 17 chemo, the cancer returned and targeted his brain. I lost him last June 22 of this year.
I am still looking forward to go back to that shelter and adopt more kids. I want to have other adopted children. However, I still have to mend my broken heart. I need to be healed first completely so I can love fully the way I loved Excel.
Until now, Excel can still make me happy. After all, he was not just my friend but my adopted SON. My family and friends can also make me smile but no one can truly give that indescribable spark in my eyes than him. My bond withExcel had a HUGE DIFFERENCE compared to others. With my son, I love the feeling of being responsible to make him happy. I had learned a lot from him which was meant to be kept eternally in my heart.
Oh.. I think I am getting sentimental now. This is actually the first time I talked about him without crying. HIS MEMORIES HUNT ME NOW IN THE MIDDLE OF DAWN. I LOVED HIM. I MISS MY SON.
WOW!! ,… you made me feel so comfortable sharing with you some of my sentiments/ vulnerable side. Isn’t that a wonderful way of knowing other people? I am sure, you got to know me deeper now.
,… Talking about work, can you please tell me more about it? I would love to know the artist in you!
I have to rest now. Please enjoy your day!!!!

Your donation will go towards anything from slippers, books, clothing, a birthday cake to equipment and medication that the children may not have access to. It is for anything that will help these brave children to fight with hope and courage.

Danforth Sandwich is like eating with your adopted Italian family. Great food, good lattes and lovely people.
I love the sandwiches, the rice balls, the daily soups and salads, combos and of course the coffees. Everything is fresh and homemade from scratch.
You try and help the places you love to eat by going there regularly. In this case, I also wanted to give them a little boost with a little video clip below.
Hope this is ok with the Yelp guidelines.
